The last few seasons aren’t bad but they didn’t transition from Ragnar to his sons well at all. The chinese medicine addiction was completely off the wall and his disappearance/reappearance and final journey to England was an injustice to a great character. But after they do transition to his sons, I think the writers started to get it somewhat right again. The first two seasons are pretty decent. Not great but fun to watch if you can look beyond plot holes. S3- and 4 is where it started to go downhill until everything turned into utter shit and unwatchable garbage.  Yes, and so did other ancient tribes even earlier than so, most of our sources on the Germanic (also Slavic, Finnic, Baltic, etc) raids come from.
